This stretch of Calfpasture River is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The natural beauty of Virginia and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Rt 250 to Route 692 section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack
your camp stove too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. The put-in location is a short
drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: All through the summer, highs commonly are in the 70's at Calfpasture River while nighttime lows are frequently in the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are regularly in the 30's; nighttime lows in the 10's for Calfpasture River. Calfpasture River is a relatively normal site; the month with most of the rain is July; January on the other hand is the driest. Near Calfpasture River you hit upon Reubens Draft which is a perfect place to check out, and going for a hike along the West Augusta Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region.
