Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The put-in is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Augusta/Rockbridge County scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there
are others too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This section of Calfpasture River
is 10 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots.

Throughout the winter highs are in the 30's; night lows in the 10's for Calfpasture River. On a delightful day at Calfpasture River you can take a hike along the Elliott Knob Trail.
