The Rt 250 to Route 692 section of Calfpasture River in Augusta/Rockbridge County is 10 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The starting location is a short drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down Calfpasture River attract people from near and far. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular
destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. If you
hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: Reubens Draft is a splendid place to visit next to Calfpasture River, and you can have a great hiking adventure along the Elliott Knob Trail. Calfpasture River gets a common amount of rainfall; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most
rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. High temperatures at Calfpasture River all through the days of summer are in the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 30's; nighttime lows at Calfpasture River during the wintertime frequently drop into the 10's. Take a hike on the West Augusta Trail.
