The natural beauty of Augusta/Rockbridge County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Route 692 to Route 687 stretch is just one of them. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. If you're coming from Staunton-Waynesboro     it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The Route 692 to Route 687 stretch of Calfpasture River in Virginia is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: This river is so perfect. All through the months of summer highs here at Calfpasture River reach the 80's with nighttime lows in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's while Calfpasture River nighttime low temperatures all through   the wintertime are in the 10's. The Walker Mountain Trail is a tremendous hiking trail near Calfpasture River, and the delightful Walker Mountain is here. All the water falling down from the sky makes Calfpasture River a wet place; through the month of July you get the most rain around here; December on the other hand is the driest. Near Calfpasture River you discover the Shenandoah Mountain Trail which is a good hiking trail, and Calfpasture River is close to Fox Hollow which is without doubt worth visiting.
