The scenic beauty of Virginia and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There's camping available near Calfpasture River. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled
as well. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. The Route 692 to Route 687 section of Calfpasture River is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking
you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy.
Briefly about the general area: All through the long summer days, highs typically are in the 80's at Calfpasture River. For the period of the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Calfpasture River are in the 10's. A magnificent spot to stop at close to Calfpasture River is Fox Hollow, and since you're here you can take a hike along the
Shenandoah Mountain Trail. The scenic Walker Mountain is here at Calfpasture River, and going for a hike along the Walker Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. This river is so good. A great deal of rain falls at Calfpasture River; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and December on the other hand is the driest.
