Virginia whitewater - Calfpasture River, Augusta/Rockbridge County Augusta/Rockbridge county, Route 687 to Goshen section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     11.5 miles   The wonderful Augusta/Rockbridge County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting point is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Calfpasture River in Virginia is 11.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that     many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Route 687 to Goshen section is just one of them. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Briefly about the general area: Calfpasture River gets lots of water; throughout the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is December. The Burke Trail is a great hiking trail in close proximity to Calfpasture River, and close by Ingram Draft is a splendid spot to go. For the   duration of the days of summer here at Calfpasture River, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's while nighttime lows are typically in the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are regularly in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Calfpasture River. On a delightful day at Calfpasture River you can take a hike along the North Mountain Trail.
