The Route 687 to Goshen section of Calfpasture River in Augusta/Rockbridge County is 11.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to     keep you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Calfpasture River are pretty good. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Route 687 to Goshen section is just one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Briefly about the general area: Calfpasture River is a wet spot that gets much rainfall; the wettest month of the year is regularly   July, that's the one that rains the most, and December is when it's the driest. Near Calfpasture River you stumble on the North Mountain Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail; if you desire a little side trip, try Ingram Draft. During the days of summer at Calfpasture River highs are regularly in the 80's, and the night is fairly cooler of course, frequently in the 50's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's while Calfpasture River overnight low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 10's.
