If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The beautiful scenery of Augusta/Rockbridge County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping     bag. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Route 687 to Goshen stretch is just one of many. Briefly about the general area: Ingram Draft is a magnificent site to take a look at close by, and there are tremendous places to look at   along the Burke Trail. High temperatures at Calfpasture River during the summertime are in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. Through the winter highs are frequently in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Calfpasture River. Going for a hike on the North Mountain Trail is always a magnificent adventure. Calfpasture River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; throughout July this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is December.
