The Goshen to Maury River stretch of Calfpasture River is 4 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Not too     many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds here at Calfpasture River are pretty good. The Goshen to Maury River section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The scenic beauty of Augusta/Rockbridge County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. Briefly about the general area: Calfpasture River is a wet place that gets much rainfall; July is when you get the most rain here, and December is when it's the driest. Don't leave Calfpasture River without first going for a hike along the Old Bridge Trail. At Calfpasture River during the long summer days highs are in the   80's, and the nighttime is somewhat cooler of course, typically in the 50's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 30's with temperatures at Calfpasture River dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. Go for a hike on the Missing Link Trail, and if you would like a little side visit, try Chambers Hollow.
