This stretch of Catawba Creek in Virginia is 12 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. people coming from far and near. If you're coming from Roanoke it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are no other sections to paddle along Catawba Creek than the Fincastle to James
River section. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. The nature scenery of Botetourt County and the water flowing gracefully down Catawba Creek will make you feel great. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.

highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Catawba Creek, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. Highs through the winter are commonly in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Catawba Creek temperatures plunge to the 20's. Catawba Creek is a good location of common rain; the month with most of the rain is July, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
