The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The Route 721 to Byllesby Dam on New River section of Chestnut Creek in Carroll County is 11.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great.
A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. There are some good hotels near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The nature scenery of Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down Chestnut Creek
will make you feel great. Chestnut Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Route 721 to Byllesby Dam on New River section is the only one. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. The campgrounds here at Chestnut Creek are pretty good. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.
