The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bluefield, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. You can pitch a tent or park     your RV at a nearby campground. The Taylor's Mill to Cedar Bluff section of Clinch River in Tazewell/ Russell County is 13.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: Clinch River usually gets a great deal of rain; during May this area sees the most rain, and February is when it's the driest. For the duration of the warm months here at Clinch   River, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 80's while nighttime lows are generally in the 60's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 40's; all through the dark hours in the winter at Clinch River temperatures plunge to the 20's.
