The natural beauty of Madison/Greene County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The starting point is not too far from Charlottesville, as you can see on the road map further down. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't
matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing
to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Rt. 667 to Rapidan River and Route 29 Bridge section of Conway River is 13 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. The Rt. 667 to Rapidan River and Route 29 Bridge section is the only paddling section along Conway River.

hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's; through the dark hours in the wintertime at Conway River temperatures drop to the 20's. From a rainfall point of view Conway River is a pretty common site; through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is January.
