county,
Cove Creek Gorge to Stinking Creek confluence section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V+ 2 miles
This section of Cove Creek is 2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. The natural beauty of Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down Cove Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Kingsport-Bristol it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some
good walking shoes. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Cove Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Cove Creek Gorge to Stinking
Creek confluence stretch is the only one. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
