The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This stretch of Cove Creek in Scott County is 2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance
you're all set. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Kingsport-Bristol, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The
campgrounds here at Cove Creek are pretty good. This is the only paddling section along Cove Creek. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
Briefly about the general area: Near Cove Creek you find nice places like Cracker Neck. All through the months of summer at Cove Creek highs are regularly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Cove Creek. Cove Creek is a good place of common precipitation; March is the month that gets the most rain, and October is the month with the least moisture.
