Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. The scenic beauty of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have     to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Briefly about the general area: Barracks Draft is a great site to spend some time at; don't leave Cowpasture River without first going for a hike along the Marshall Draft Trail. At this river you will never have a bad time. Byrd Point is an interesting thing to see if you're here at Cowpasture River, and fine hiking is available along the Jerkemtight Trail. Cowpasture River gets a lot of water; July is the wettest month with   most rain; the driest month of the year is December. During the warmest time of the year highs here at Cowpasture River get into the 80's. Summer nighttime lows sink down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's; night lows at Cowpasture River during the wintertime commonly plunge into the 10's.
