The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The Griffith to James River stretch of Cowpasture River is 13.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. There are some     good sections to paddle in this river system, the Griffith to James River section is one of them. The campgrounds here at Cowpasture River are pretty good. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Briefly about the general area: Cowpasture River is a rather wet place generally with a great deal of rain; most of the rain falls through July while December is the month with the least amount of precipitation. High temperatures at Cowpasture River through the summertime are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 30's while Cowpasture River night low temperatures   through the wintertime are in the 10's.
