The wonderful Virginia scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Cowpasture River have people coming here. The Griffith to James River stretch of Cowpasture River in Virginia is 13.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The rivers for whitewater
rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room
before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here.
