The beautiful scenery of Highland County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. This is the only paddling section along Crab Run. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch of Crab Run in Highland County is 3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There's camping
available near Crab Run. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget
that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the days of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Crab Run. Through the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Crab Run. While staying at Crab Run you could always discover Seldom Seen Hollow, and do
take a hike on the Hupman Valley Trail. All the water falling down from the sky makes Crab Run a wet site; during the month of July you get the most rain around here; the driest month is February.
