Highland
county,
Along Route 250 to McDowell section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 3 miles
If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This stretch of Crab Run in Highland County is 3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. The Along Route 250 to McDowell stretch is the only paddling stretch along Crab Run. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is a
bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive
a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
