The Along Route 250 to McDowell stretch of Crab Run in Virginia is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Crab Run doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Along Route 250 to McDowell section is the only one. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end     up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The wonderful Highland County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Briefly about the general area: Crab Run sees pretty high levels of rain; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is February. Seldom Seen Hollow is a pleasant location to take a look at near Crab Run, and there is a great hiking trail nearby called the Hupman Valley Trail. Through the summertime, highs generally are in the 80's at Crab Run, and the nighttime   is quite colder of course, frequently in the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 30's, and overnight lows at Crab Run through the wintertime typically descend into the 10's.
