This stretch of Craig Creek is 7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for
beginners. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. The put-in location is a short drive from Roanoke, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area
has a large number of paddling rivers. This is the only paddling stretch along Craig Creek. The campgrounds here at Craig Creek are pretty good. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
