The Claudville to Jessup Mill stretch of Dan River in Patrick / Stokes (NC) County is 8 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Patrick / Stokes (NC) County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip.     You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. The starting point is not too far from Mount Airy, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Claudville to Jessup Mill section is just one of them. Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Dan River. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into   the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Dan River. Dan River is a good spot of common precipitation; the month with most of the rain is May, and the driest of the months is January.
