The beautiful scenery of Patrick County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve     in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The put-in is not too far from Mount Airy, as you can see on the road map further down. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Dan River is in the vicinity of Kibler Valley which is certainly worth taking a look at. During the summertime highs here at Dan River get into the 80's.   Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Dan River. From a precipitation point of view Dan River is a quite normal spot; during the month of May you get the most rain around here, and January on the other hand is the driest.
