Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This stretch of Dan River in Patrick County is 11.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this     is an area with plenty of spots for that. There's camping available near Dan River. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Mount Airy, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Briefly about the general area: A good spot close to Dan River is Kibler Valley. Summer at Dan River comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs   in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Dan River. From a rainfall point of view Dan River is a reasonably common spot; May is the wettest month with most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture.
