The wonderful Virginia scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. If you're coming from Mount Airy it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beauty of     the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Pinnacles Power Plant to Claudville section is just one of many. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Dan River generally tend to be in the 80's. Once the sun is down   it descends down to the 50's. Throughout the wintertime highs are mostly in the 40's; night lows at Dan River during the wintertime regularly fall into the 20's.
