Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This section of Difficult Run in Fairfax County is 0.9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV(V+) section. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since
you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. This is a very short
section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Old Georgetown Pike to Potomac River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Difficult Run. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.
Briefly about the general area: Great Falls is a charming site to explore while you're at Difficult Run; if you're here you can take a hike along the Gold Mine Trail. If you
come to this river you will have a good time for sure. On a fine day at Difficult Run you can take a hike along the Potomac Heritage Trail, and Wolf Trap Farm Park is a pleasant national park. Summertime highs at Difficult Run usually tend to be in the 80's. When the night sets
in temperatures sink down into the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's; overnight lows at Difficult Run during the wintertime ordinarily fall into the 20's. An average amount of rainfall falls at Difficult Run; May is the wettest month with most rain while February
is the month with the least amount of precipitation. The Spout is always fun to check out, and Mather Gorge is a great location to pop by.
