The scenic beauty of Fairfax County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. If you're coming from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a
road map further down the page with more info on that. No shortage of good hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. For all you camping people there are campgrounds
nearby. This is a very short section so no need to bring snacks. There are no other stretches to paddle along Difficult Run than the Old Georgetown Pike to Potomac River stretch.
Briefly about the general area: This river is a great place to visit. The Spout is always fun to check out; Mather Gorge is another delightful place to go to close by. A short journey to Great Falls is always worthwhile, and close by you stumble on the Gold Mine Trail which is a good hiking trail. Difficult Run is a good place of common rain; all through May this
area sees the most rain, and the driest month is February. Wolf Trap Farm Park is a wonderful national park, and going for a hike on the Potomac Heritage Trail is always a glorious adventure. High temperatures at Difficult Run through the long summer days are in the 80's while
overnight lows are frequently in the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Difficult Run dip into the 20's.
