This section of Dry River is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Harrisonburg, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The nature scenery
of Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if
you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The Rt 33 to Route 613 stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. There's camping available near Dry River.

national average; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. The Second Mountain Trail is a pleasant hiking trail close to Dry River, and close by you discover the Dictum Ridge Trail which is a good hiking trail.
This is a really good river. All through the summertime months highs here at Dry River reach the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. For the period of the wintertime the highs are generally in the 40's while Dry River night low temperatures all through the wintertime are in the 10's.
