Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The starting location is a short drive from Harrisonburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so
pack your sleeping bag. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Rt 33 to Route 613 section is one of them. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the playfulness
of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Dry River; July is when you get the most rain here, and January is when it's the driest. At Dry River through the summertime months highs are in the 80's with night lows in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Dry River. Taking
a little trip to close by Blue Hole is a glorious idea, and of course, A visit to Hughes Hollow is always fun. Go for a hike on the Second Mountain Trail; don't leave Dry River without first going for a hike along the Dictum Ridge Trail. This is such a wonderful river.
