The Crows to Jackson River stretch of Dunlap Creek is 18.5 miles long and is a class I-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Crows to Jackson River section is one of them. The beautiful scenery of Alleghany County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. You might be into whitewater     rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Roanoke, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Briefly about the general area: Through the summertime months, highs mostly are in the 80's at Dunlap Creek with nighttime lows in the 50's. Through the winter highs are in   the 30's with temperatures at Dunlap Creek dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. Dunlap Creek is a good place of normal rainfall; all through July this area sees the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
