If you're coming from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Four Mile Run is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around
here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Four Mile Run doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Ohio Street to Arlington Ridge Road stretch is the only one. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good
spots for that around here. The campgrounds here at Four Mile Run are pretty good. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip.
Briefly about the general area: Good hiking is available along the Upland Trail, and you can always enjoy a lazy day on the beach at Bathing Beach. Throughout the months of summer at Four Mile Run highs are typically in the 80's, and the night is slightly
chillier of course, mostly in the 60's. Through the winter highs are commonly in the 40's; nighttime lows all through the winter for Four Mile Run tend to be in the 20's. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Four Mile Run; Swamp Trail is a tremendous local trail. Four Mile Run gets a common amount of rain; May is the month that gets the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
