The scenic beauty of Warren County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. This stretch of Gooney Run in Warren County is 4.1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV+ section of whitewater. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. There are no other sections to paddle along Gooney Run
than the Browntown to Karo Landing section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The put-in is not
too far from Winchester, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus.
Briefly about the general area: Hiking along the Dickey Hill Trail is magnificent fun, and you can have a great hiking adventure along the Gimlet Ridge Trail. High temperatures at Gooney Run during the warm months are in the
80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Gooney Run. The yearly rainfall here at Gooney Run is about average; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and the driest month is February. Man, is there heaps of amusing stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
