Breaks to Russell Fork section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV+ 2 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The Breaks to Russell Fork section of Grassy Creek in Virginia is 2 miles long and
has been rated as a class IV+ section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The wild scenery of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is great. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the water flowing gracefully
down Grassy Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Grassy Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Breaks to Russell Fork stretch is the only one. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: You might want to pay a visit to The Notches while you're here at Grassy Creek, and the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Cold Spring. For the period of the months

without first checking out The Breaks. Grassy Creek is a pretty wet place mostly with lots of rainfall; during the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is October. So much cool stuff to do here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains, too glorious
to be true. What would a location like Grassy Creek be without attention-grabbing close by features like Lovers Leap, and do schedule some time to go to Garden Hole if you have a chance.
