If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch of Grassy Creek in Dickenson County is 2 miles long and is a class IV+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming
back for more. This section is quite short so better bring some good walking shoes. The natural beauty of Dickenson County and the water flowing gracefully down Grassy Creek attract people from near and far. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great
experience. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Grassy Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Breaks to Russell Fork stretch is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: This river is so good. Garden Hole is not far from Grassy Creek at all. The Breaks is an interesting thing to catch a sight of if you're here at Grassy Creek, and if you would like a little side journey, try The Notches.
Grassy Creek gets a large amount of water; most of the rain falls throughout July, and October on the other hand is the driest. Through the warm days of summer at Grassy Creek temperatures are usually in the 80's while night lows are ordinarily in the 60's. Daytime highs throughout
