Virginia whitewater - Green Cove Creek, Washington County Washington county, AT - Virginia Creeper Trail section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-IV+(V)     1.5 miles   This stretch of Green Cove Creek is 1.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV+(V) section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Washington County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. There are no other stretches to paddle along Green Cove Creek than the AT - Virginia Creeper Trail stretch. The put-in location is a short drive from Boone, as you can see on the road map further down. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Since you're on this site you are     probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The campgrounds here at Green Cove Creek are pretty good. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Briefly about the general area: Hiking along the Elk Garden Trail is pleasant fun. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Green Cove Creek, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's; overnight lows at Green Cove Creek   during the wintertime typically drop into the 20's. Take a hike on the Iron Mountain Trail, and while you're here, you might as well stop at Bear Tree Gap. Green Cove Creek is a relatively wet place mostly with lots of precipitation; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and the driest month is November.
