Virginia whitewater - Green Cove Creek, Washington County Washington county, AT - Virginia Creeper Trail section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-IV+(V)     1.5 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. This section of Green Cove Creek is 1.5 miles long and is a class III-IV+(V) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The nature scenery of Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You     might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a bit of a short stretch so no need to bring snacks. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Boone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are no other sections to paddle along Green Cove Creek than the AT - Virginia Creeper Trail section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Briefly about the general area: Throughout the days of summer highs here at Green Cove Creek reach the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs   in the 40's, and overnight lows at Green Cove Creek through the winter usually drop into the 20's. Hiking along the Elk Garden Trail is perfect fun. Green Cove Creek is a wet site that gets a good deal of precipitation; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and November on the other hand is the driest. Take a hike on the Iron Mountain Trail, and a good location to stop at is Bear Tree Gap.
