The AT - Virginia Creeper Trail stretch of Green Cove Creek in Washington County is 1.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV+(V) section. The scenic beauty of Washington County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Boone, as you can see on the road map further down. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, |

but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is a pretty short section so no need to bring snacks. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater rafting and
| kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The AT - Virginia Creeper Trail section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system.

fun. When you're here at Green Cove Creek it's always fun to explore Grayson Highlands State Park. Green Cove Creek frequently gets a great deal of rain. July is the wettest month with most rain while November is the month with the least amount of precipitation. For the period of the long summer days, highs generally are in the 80's at Green Cove Creek, and during the night it cools down to the 50's.
