Virginia whitewater - Guest River, Wise/ Scott County Wise/ Scott county, Rt. 72 to Clinch River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V     8 miles   The Rt. 72 to Clinch River stretch of Guest River in Virginia is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Kingsport-Bristol, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out     with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The Rt. 72 to Clinch River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Guest River. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. The wonderful Wise/ Scott County scenery and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Briefly about the general area: The amount of rain that falls at Guest River is close to the national average; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month is October. At Guest River through the warm   months highs are in the 80's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's while Guest River nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 20's. Near Guest River you discover Pound Gap which is a pleasant location to have a look at. Some wonderful nature is available in Flatwoods, and what would a site like Guest River be without interesting close by highlights like Hanging Rock.
