Virginia whitewater - Guest River, Wise/ Scott County Wise/ Scott county, Rt. 72 to Clinch River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V     8 miles   The Rt. 72 to Clinch River section of Guest River in Virginia is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Kingsport-Bristol, there's a road map further down the page     with more info on that. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Rt. 72 to Clinch River section is the only paddling section along Guest River. Briefly about the general area: Guest River is a good location of typical rain; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain; October meanwhile is the driest month. A wooded neighborhood near Guest River is Flatwoods. Summertime highs at Guest River ordinarily tend to be in   the 80's, and the nighttime is a bit cooler of course, generally in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's while Guest River nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 20's. If you're hooked on cool geologic characteristics, try Hanging Rock; Pound Gap is a great site to spend some time.
