If you are paddling the hazel this is a heads up when taking out at the low water bridge on monument mills road. The property owners there are real not so friendly. They think they own the river itself. Just a heads up. Says Low water bridge in rixeyville

The SR 603 to Route 522 Bridge section

here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The natural beauty of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The SR 603 to Route 522 Bridge section is the only paddling section along Hughes River and Hazel River. There's camping available near Hughes River and Hazel River. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more.
