If you are paddling the hazel this is a heads up when taking out at the low water bridge on monument mills road. The property owners there are real not so friendly. They think they own the river itself. Just a heads up. Says Low water bridge in rixeyville

Some B and B's are near the put-in and take-out for the Hughes. La Bella Terra at 605 and 606 in Madison County is a weekend B and B in season (May-September)and near the take out. It also offers farmhouse dining on Sat. 540 547 2317. Says Kit Johnston

The SR 603 to Route 522 Bridge section
    of Hughes River and Hazel River in Rappahannock/Culpepper County is 9.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting
here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The natural beauty of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The SR 603 to Route 522 Bridge section is the only paddling section along Hughes River and Hazel River. There's camping available near Hughes River and Hazel River. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater  
rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more.

Briefly about the general area:
Summertime at Hughes River and Hazel River comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's with temperatures at Hughes River and Hazel River dipping down into the 20's through winter nights. Hughes River and Hazel River gets a typical amount of annual rainfall; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain; February is when it's the driest.
