If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. This section of Irish Creek in Rockbridge County is 7.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. And
of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. There are nice comfortable
hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The Irish Creek Mission to South River section is the only paddling section along Irish Creek. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
