The scenic beauty of Rockbridge County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This stretch of Irish Creek is 7.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-IV section of whitewater. No need to look hard for hotels, and if you make reservations     in advance you're all set. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. There are no other stretches to paddle along Irish Creek than the Irish Creek Mission to South River stretch. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The campgrounds here at Irish Creek are pretty good. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. Briefly about the general area: The yearly rain here at Irish Creek is about average; throughout the month of July you get the most rain around here while February is typically the driest month. Near Irish Creek you hit upon pleasant spots like Big Dark Hollow. All through the summer highs here at Irish Creek   get into the 80's. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 60's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Irish Creek dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.
