This section of Irish Creek in Rockbridge County is 7.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. And     of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The Irish Creek Mission to South River section is the only paddling section along Irish Creek. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Briefly about the general area: Big Dark Hollow is a brilliant site to take a look at near Irish Creek. During the summer at Irish Creek temperatures are regularly   in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Irish Creek are in the 20's. Irish Creek gets a typical amount of annual rain; the wettest month of the year is commonly July, that's the one that rains the most, and February is when it's the driest.
