The Vinegar Run to Route 603 stretch of Jackson River in Bath/ Alleghany County is 28.5 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This river system has a few good paddling stretches

Briefly about the general area: Go for a hike on the McGuffin Trail. A lot of rain falls at Jackson River; most of the rain falls throughout July; the driest of the months is February. Ned Hollow is near Jackson River and is a good spot, and nice hiking is available along the Piney Mountain Trail. During the warmest time of the year highs here at Jackson River reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's with temperatures at Jackson River dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
