Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The starting point is not too far from Roanoke, as you can see on the road map further down. The Route 43 to Route 630 stretch of James River is 16.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can enjoy this section more if you take your
time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. There's camping available near James River. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The beautiful
scenery of Botetourt County and the water flowing gracefully down James River make the trip here worthwhile. The Route 43 to Route 630 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that.
