The Reedy Creek to Mayo Island stretch of James River in City of Richmond County is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Richmond, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. | river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.

Summertime brings highs in the 80's to James River; during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 40's with temperatures at James River dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. | |
