The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter,      in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The Reedy Creek to Mayo Island section of James River in Virginia is 2.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The high level of precipitation makes James River a relatively wet site; the month with most of the rain is August, and April on the other hand is the driest. For the duration of the warm months at James River highs are regularly in the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's.
