  The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. If you're coming from Richmond it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Reedy Creek to Mayo Island stretch is one of them. The Reedy Creek to Mayo Island section of James River in City of Richmond County is 2.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. Whitewater
    rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers.

A lot of rainfall falls at James River; most of the rain falls through August, and April meanwhile is the driest month. While you're here at James River you will meet lots of folks from nearby Richmond.

all through the months of summer highs are in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and overnight lows at James River through the wintertime frequently drop into the 20's.
