There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Reedy Creek to Mayo Island stretch is one of them. The Reedy Creek to Mayo Island section of James River in City of Richmond County is 2.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. Whitewater     rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
