The Jennings Gap to Middle River stretch of Jennings Branch is 8 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one
day paddling trip. The beautiful scenery of Augusta County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Jennings Gap to Middle River section is the only paddling section along Jennings Branch. There's camping available
near Jennings Branch. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: Jennings Branch gets a common amount of rain; during the month of July you get the most rain around here while January is mostly the driest month. Summertime highs at Jennings Branch ordinarily tend to be in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows plunge down to the 50's. For the duration of the winter this place
gets highs in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Jennings Branch temperatures descend to the 10's. The Bear Draft Trail offers hiking at its best, and Jennings Branch is right by the Lookout Mountain Trail.
