The starting location is a short drive from Roanoke, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Route 614 to James River section of Jennings Creek is 4.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way
this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The nature scenery of Virginia and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Jennings Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Route 614 to James River section is the only one. This is a pretty decent length section,
suitable for an afternoon trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

along the McFalls Ridge Trail. Summertime highs at Jennings Creek frequently tend to be in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 60's. Through the wintertime the highs are frequently in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Jennings Creek are in
the 20's. The annual precipitation here at Jennings Creek is about average; the wettest month of the year is typically July, that's the one that rains the most; January is when it's the driest.
