The put-in is not too far from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so better not forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The wonderful Craig County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. For all you camping people there
are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. This section of Johns Creek in Craig County is 21 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll
have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Route 632 bridge to Route 311 bridge section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: A normal amount of rain falls here at Johns Creek; through the month of July you get the most rain around here while January is ordinarily the driest month. Have a good hiking adventure along the Trout Creek Appalachian Trail. Hiking along the Potts Mountain Trail is splendid fun, and Rack Hollow
is a tremendous place to spend some time. Summertime at Johns Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and the nighttime is a tad cooler of course, mostly in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Johns Creek.
