The natural beauty of Craig County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you're coming from Roanoke it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please
print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of Johns Creek is 5.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV(V) section by American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance
you're all set. The campgrounds here at Johns Creek are pretty good. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon.

river is always fun. If the weather is tremendous here at Johns Creek, you can go for a hike along the Cove Trail. Johns Creek gets a normal amount of rain; during July this area sees the most rain; the driest month of the year is February. Going for a hike along the Potts
Arm Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area, and don't leave Johns Creek without first paying a visit to Meadow Creek Falls.
