The starting location is a reasonable drive from Boone, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The Damascus to South Fork of Holston River section of Laurel Creek is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There are no other sections to paddle along Laurel Creek than the Damascus to South Fork of Holston River
section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby
but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Near Laurel Creek you come across Fisher Hollow which is a tremendous location to take a look at, and going for a hike on the Clark Mountain Trail is always a pleasant adventure. Throughout the days of summer, highs regularly are in the 80's at Laurel Creek while night lows are regularly in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and night
lows in the 20's for Laurel Creek. All the water falling down from the sky makes Laurel Creek a wet site; the wettest month of the year is mostly July, that's the one that rains the most; February meanwhile is the driest month.
