The put-in location is a short drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The campgrounds here at Laurel
Run are pretty good. This is the only paddling stretch along Laurel Run. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater paddling here in the
Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This stretch of Laurel Run in Virginia is 1.5 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the days of summer here at Laurel Run, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's; the nighttime is a little cooler of course, typically in
the 50's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Laurel Run. Just can't get enough of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Good hiking is available along the Little Peak Trail. Laurel Run is a wet location that gets
a great deal of rainfall; during the month of July you get the most rain around here; the driest month of the year is December. Near Laurel Run you come across Chambers Hollow which is a brilliant place to stop at, and you can go for a hike on the Goshen Pass Trail.
