  If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The Sylvatus to New River Close to Allisonia stretch of Little Reed Island Creek in Carroll/ Pulaski County is 17.5 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Carroll/ Pulaski County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. For
    all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The beauty of the
Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Sylvatus to New River Close to Allisonia section is just one of them. The put-in location is a short drive from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map  
further down the page.

Briefly about the general area:
Throughout the warmest time of the year highs here at Little Reed Island Creek get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. Highs throughout the winter are regularly in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Little Reed Island Creek. A common amount of rainfall falls here at Little Reed Island Creek; all through the month of May you get the most rain around here while November is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
If you're here, you might as well go to Alum Hollow.
