If you're coming from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Little Stony Creek in Giles County is 1.6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V(V+) section of whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay
the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This section is quite short so better bring some good walking shoes. There's camping
available near Little Stony Creek. The Cascades to USFS Parking Area stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere.
Briefly about the general area: Put some time aside to spend at Upper Falls while you're here at Little Stony Creek, and Pacers Gap is also a pleasant
site to discover. Throughout the warm days of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Little Stony Creek. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's; nighttime lows at Little Stony Creek during the winter
regularly drop into the 20's. Interesting geology is available here; Barneys Wall is near Little Stony Creek, and hiking along the Falt Peter Trail is wonderful fun. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. It's always great to pop by Cascades, and Little Stony
Creek is right by the Conservancy Trail. Little Stony Creek gets a common amount of yearly rainfall; the month with most of the rain is July; January is when it's the driest.
