Virginia whitewater - Lynch River, Albermarle County Albermarle county, Shady Grove to North Fork of Rivanna River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     6.5 miles   The Shady Grove to North Fork of Rivanna River stretch of Lynch River is 6.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Charlottesville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. There are campgrounds     quite near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. This is the only paddling section along Lynch River. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Briefly about the general area: A normal amount of rainfall falls here at Lynch River; August is when you get the most rain here, and January on the other hand is the driest. For the period of the summer at Lynch River highs are ordinarily in the 80's; the nighttime is quite colder of course, regularly in the 60's.
