Virginia whitewater - Lynch River, Albermarle County Albermarle county, Shady Grove to North Fork of Rivanna River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     6.5 miles   The wonderful Virginia scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Lynch River in Virginia is 6.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This is the only paddling stretch along Lynch River. The put-in location is a short drive     from Charlottesville, as you can see on the road map further down. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. Briefly about the general area: At Lynch River through the summertime highs are in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's while Lynch River overnight low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's.
