This section of Marl Creek - South R.Trib in Rockbridge County is 1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV+ section. The put-in is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Rockbridge County scenery and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This is a very short stretch so no need to bring snacks. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Steele's Tavern to Virginia-56 section is one of them. Great exercise and spending
some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here.
