The beautiful scenery of Bath/ Rockbridge County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section of Maury River in Virginia is 6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III+(IV) section of whitewater. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the
river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget
that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The Goshen Pass to Rockbridge Baths section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.

about the general area: A tour to Goshen Pass is always fun; the Jump Rock Trail offers hiking at its best. At Maury River throughout the long summer days highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to
the 30's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Maury River temperatures descend to the 10's. Be careful coming to the Blue Ridge Mountains, you might not ever want to go back home again. There's magnificent hiking along the Little Peak Trail. A great deal of precipitation falls at Maury River; during the month of July you get the most rain around here while December is mostly the driest month.
