If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The scenic beauty of Rockbridge County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. This section of Maury River in Rockbridge County is 32 miles long and has been rated as a class II(III) section by American Whitewater.
The put-in is not too far from Lynchburg, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are some good hotels near the river,
and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that.

is the month with the least amount of precipitation. During the long summer days, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Maury River. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. For the period of the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Maury River.
