Virginia whitewater - Mill Creek, Rockbridge County Rockbridge county, Route 42 Wayside to Goshen section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     7.5 miles   This stretch of Mill Creek in Virginia is 7.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in     Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The Route 42 Wayside to Goshen stretch is the only paddling stretch along Mill Creek. Briefly about the general area: The high level of precipitation makes Mill Creek a pretty wet site; the wettest month of the year is regularly July, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is December. The Old Bridge Trail is a wonderful hiking trail next to Mill Creek. Summer at Mill Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's typically in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Mill Creek.
