The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The scenic beauty of Rockbridge County and the cool fresh water beats anything. This stretch has has enough mileage,
it's good length for a morning trip. There are no other sections to paddle along Mill Creek than the Route 42 Wayside to Goshen section. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Route 42 Wayside to Goshen section of Mill Creek is 7.5 miles long
and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of precipitation makes Mill Creek a relatively wet place; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain while December is the month with the least amount of precipitation. During the warm days of summer here at Mill Creek, high temperatures typically reach the 80's with night lows in
the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Mill Creek. If the weather is splendid here at Mill Creek, you can go for a hike along the Old Bridge Trail. While you're here at Mill Creek you can take a hike along the Gochenour Hunter Access Trail, and close by Panther Gap is a great location to go.
