The nature scenery of Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down New River beats anything. The Claytor Lake to State line section of New River in Virginia is 52.2 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel
a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The Claytor Lake to State line section is one of a few paddling
sections in this river system. Now this is a pretty long section, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. The put-in is not too far from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
