The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. This section of New River in Virginia is 41 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The natural beauty of Grayson County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Stuart Dam to Fries stretch is just one of many. The wild scenery
of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting
or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. at New River, and nearby you stumble on the Perkins Knob Trail which is a splendid hiking trail. All through the warm months highs here at New River reach the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and overnight
lows in the 10's for New River. New River gets a common amount of annual rainfall; July is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is January.
