  The nature scenery of Augusta County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of North River in Augusta County is 26 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in
    other states, so don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is the only paddling stretch along North River. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. No matter if you're
whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.

Briefly about the general area:
For the period of the summertime at North River highs are mostly in the 80's while nighttime lows are regularly in the 50's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's with temperatures at North River dipping down into the 10's all through winter nights.
From a precipitation point of view North River is a relatively typical location; July is when you get the most rain here, and January meanwhile is the driest
 
month. Going for a hike on the Narrow Back Trail is always a tremendous adventure, and you can go for a hike on the Narrow Buck Trail.
