Augusta
county,
Below Staunton Dam to Spring Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-IV 26 miles
The wonderful Augusta County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. This stretch of North River is 26 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. The starting point is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are no other stretches to paddle along North River than the Below Staunton Dam to Spring Creek stretch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking
or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. If you have
the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: At North River through the long summer days highs are in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's commonly in
