Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The natural beauty of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The put-in location is a short drive from Roanoke, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. This is a short paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. North Creek doesn't
have a lot of paddling sections, the Campground to Jennings Creek section is the only one. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. There's camping available
near North Creek. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Campground to Jennings Creek stretch of North Creek is 2.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: North Creek sees pretty high levels of rain; July is the wettest month with most rain; January is the month with the least moisture. So many enjoyable things to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains,
not enough time. There's magnificent hiking along the McFalls Ridge Trail. Good hiking is available along the Cove Mountain Trail, and a good place is Colon Hollow. The warmest time of the year at North Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down
it descends down to the 60's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 40's with temperatures at North Creek dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.
