The Virginia Route 629 to Mayo River section of North Mayo is 4.3 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater     according to American Whitewater. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: During the summertime months at North Mayo highs are regularly in the 80's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 60's. During the winter highs are regularly in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to North Mayo.
