The starting location is a short drive from Winchester, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of Warren County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The Kings Crossing Road to Elizabeth Furnace section of Passage Creek in Virginia is 21 miles
long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places
for that. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. The campgrounds here at Passage Creek are pretty good. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

place of common rain; through July this area sees the most rain; the driest month is February. Summertime highs at Passage Creek frequently tend to be in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the period of the wintertime the highs are usually in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Passage Creek.
