The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The wonderful Warren County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Passage Creek attract people from near and far. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This section of Passage Creek in Warren County is 21 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will
have you coming back for more. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way
this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The put-in is not too far from Winchester, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Passage Creek; of all
the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and the driest month is February. This location, the Blue Ridge Mountains, has so much outdoors fun things. Going for a hike along the Veach Gap Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region; if the weather
is pleasant, you can go for a hike along the Massanutten Mountain Trail. This is a great river. Boyer Gap is a wonderful site to visit near Passage Creek, and Chalybeate Spring is a delightful local attraction. At Passage Creek throughout the warm months highs are in the 80's.
Through the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's while Passage Creek night low temperatures through the winter are in the 10's.
