The nature scenery of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Lynchburg, as you can see on the road map further down. The Below Lynchburg Reservoir to Route 640 stretch of Pedlar River in Amherst County is 14 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Some     people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. Briefly about the general area: A normal amount of rain falls here at Pedlar River; the month with most of the rain is May, and the driest month is January. High temperatures at   Pedlar River throughout the days of summer are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Pedlar River are in the 20's.
