The Route 640 to Highway 130 stretch of Pedlar River is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I(II) section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Lynchburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Amherst County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep
in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area
has a large number of paddling places. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The campgrounds here at Pedlar River are pretty good. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Route 640 to Highway 130 section is one of them.
