If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The put-in is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. The Alhambra to Woodson section of Piney River in Virginia is 3.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. And of course,
there are campgrounds nearby. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Alhambra to Woodson section is one of them. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit
away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the playfulness of the water have people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: Piney River is a wet place that gets lots of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is generally October, that's the one that rains the most; January on the other hand is the driest. High temperatures at Piney River through the months of summer are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows drop down
to the 60's. Through the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 40's; night lows in the 10's for Piney River. Go for a hike on the Tolley Gap Trail.
